Boston Scientific staff exceeded their expectations when they raised an amazing €37,500 for East Galway Cancer Care with their recent charity car raffle, in which the winner, Mary O’Connor, drove home with a new Ford Fiesta 1.2 Zetec.
East Galway Cancer Care representatives and Boston Scientific employees joined together at Boston Scientific in Ballybrit, to hand over the car keys to Mary, who was absolutely thrilled with her prize. This recent event has accelerated the total amount raised so far between Boston Scientific and its charity partner East Galway Cancer Care to an impressive €125,000, completely surpassing the original goal of €100,000.
Boston Scientific, the worldwide developer, manufacturer, and marketer of medical devices, formed a two year partnership with East Galway Cancer Care in 2013 and together they committed to a series of fundraising events. The Boston Scientific Charity Committee, a group of Boston Scientific employees from a selection of departments across the site, volunteer their time to coordinate and support the organisation with these fundraising events and to liaise on a regular basis with the charity partner.
East Galway Cancer Care comprises three cancer care centres in Athenry, Ballinasloe and Tuam. The centres support cancer patients, their families, and cancer survivors. The money raised by Boston Scientific will go towards several projects including the building of a tranquillity garden in Athenry, improving library facilities in Tuam, and will help towards purchasing and upgrading the building in Ballinasloe.
Following the success of the car raffle, Mike O’Flynn, plant manager and VP operations Boston Scientific, said: “We have had a series of events that have proved hugely successful in raising funds for our charity partner East Galway Cancer Care and we are delighted to support such a worthy cause. The fundraising by our employees ensures that the charity can continue to provide valuable services to those affected by cancer.”
Boston Scientific has a number of further fundraising events in the pipeline with East Galway Cancer Care and next up is a charity cycle scheduled for September 20. The team hopes to follow on from the success of last year’s in which a total of €7,000 was raised.
