Big weekend of club football

Three senior football championship games are fixed for Sunday with the winners advancing to the county quarter-finals on the weekend of September 6/7.

A double header takes place at Moycullen with Micheál Breathnachs taking on Salthill-Knocknacarra at 5pm, followed by NUIG and Barna at 6.45pm.

There is considerable interest in the first game and it will be interesting to see if the Connemara side can back up its noteworthy win over St James with another big scalp.

Seán Armstrong's side has not been overly impressive in getting to this stage, but the team still boasts some scoring forwards and they will feel they are an improving entity.

The Connemara men are favourites to advance to the last eight. Mulhollands has Kevin Walsh's team at 13/8 with Salthill at 8/13.

Barna have enjoyed a few good performances and they should have too much for an NUIG outfit which probably cannot confirm its line-up until a few hours before throw-in.

The other senior tie sees Tuam Stars take on Caherlistrane at Corofin on Sunday at 5.15pm.

Alan Flynn's Tuam team had a good win over Cortoon the last day out, but it is hard to look past Caherlistrane in this one and they are 5/6 with Mulhollands, while the Stars are 5/4.The intermediate quarter-finals are also down for decision and all fixtures are in the GAA fixture list.
