Award-winning theatre group Compántas Lir is holding an open reading night this month to which new members are invited.
Those who attend will assist in the reading of several plays with three to be selected as the productions for the group’s season ahead.
Compantás Lir is a local theatre group founded in 1983 and based in Claregalway and Carnmore. The group runs a successful supper theatre each autumn which consist of two one-act comedies. The group also enters the one-act and three-act festival circuit and has enjoyed considerable success, qualifying for the All-Ireland Finals on almost twenty occasions.
Compántas Lir has members from many different areas of County Galway and is always seeking to expand the group’s membership base. There are many different roles available to all members within the group throughout the year including acting, backstage, set building, lighting, and sound.
The open reading night will be held in The Arches Hotel, Claregalway, on Thursday August 21 at 8pm. The open reading night will assist in the casting of the two one-act comedies for the Autumn Supper Theatre, the one-act for the Festival Circuit in Autumn/Winter 2014 and the three-act for the festival circuit in Spring 2015.
All members are welcomed on the night, however, newcomers interested in any of the above roles are especially encouraged to go along and meet current Compántas Lir members and read extracts from the selection of plays if they so wish. The group looks forward to meeting prospective new members on the night and strengthening the tradition of theatre in Co. Galway.
