Galway’s very own destination store Standún, located in Spiddal, has been shortlisted in the top 100 of the Retail Excellence Awards. The store now progresses to stage two of the awards which involves a formal store assessment which will determine if the store progresses to the top 50.
Last year the store was named as one of the top 50 in Ireland, and this is one of many accolades for the popular store that also won ‘Best of Galway’ and ‘Best of Aran Knitwear Quality and Value’ for the Wall Street Journal.
Cliona Standún, manager of Standún Spiddal, commented, “We are delighted to be shortlisted for these Retail Excellence Awards. We are committed to providing top class customer service and a superior shopping experience to all our customers’’.
The Retail Excellence Ireland Awards were established in 1997 to promote best practice standards in the Irish Retail Industry. The awards are focused on promoting and recognising standards of excellence in retail and the awards programme is now the largest of its kind in Ireland. A rigorous assessment and selection process is implemented to ensure objective performance measurement of all stores. The top 100 stores are visited by a fully trained store assessor. An independent judging panel will then select the top 50.
Standún Spiddal is renowned as an outstanding shopping destination for over sixty five years, catering for all ages and nationalities. Traditionally Standún was famous for its Aran Sweater and was the first store in Ireland to export Aran Sweaters to US department stores such as Nordstrom and Lord and Taylor. Standun still boasts a very wide range of Aran knitwear to this day.
In recent years it has become well known for its wide selection of Irish and international brands. It has a huge ladies fashion department as well as great ranges of clothing for men and children. It also has a large home and giftware department. Recently renovated, Standun featured on RTE’s Feargal Quinn Retail Therapy Show. It is currently run by the third generation of the Standun family, Cliona and her sister Laragh. In the store, you can also enjoy tea or coffee with homebaking and beautiful views of the Cliffs of Moher, the Aran Islands and Galway Bay.
