‘The nooks and crannies of the human condition’

WHERE DO you start when representing the human figure? This is the question six artists explore in a new exhibitionin the Galway Arts Centre.

Now and Everything in Between, which opens tomorrow at 6pm, focuses on the human body through new work by David Booth, Nicki Cheevers, Fiona Finnegan, Paraic Leahy, Paul MacCormaic and Eleanor McCaughey.

Booth’s work explores vulnerability; Cheevers’ photos have a deceptive simplicity; there is a brooding quality to Finnegan’s paintings; humorous in MacCormaic's work; and then there are the morphed portraits by Leahy and the fragile doll portraits of McCaughey.

The exhibition is curated by Nexus Arts, a curatorial collective based in Louth. “We believe their work opens up the opportunity to delve into and explore the nooks and crannies of the human condition from a different angle,” said the group.

Now and Everything in Between runs until August 29. Nicki Cheevers will give a talk on the exhibition this Saturday at 1pm.
