“NEO-ACOUSTIC Celtic post-rock” and “progressive traditional” are two of the terms which have been used to try to capture the sound and style of The Olllam.
The Olllam are coming to Galway to play the Róisín Dubh this Monday at 8pm. The band is an Irish and American collaboration of Lúnasa co-founder and Belfast man John McSherry (pipes, low whistles ), Limerick’s Sean O’Meara (guitar ), and Detroit musicians Tyler Duncan (pipes, low whistles ), Michael Shimmin (drums ), Joe Dart (bass ), and Woody Goss (piano ).
The band’s music fuses Irish trad, jazz, rock, and urban. The Irish Times said of them: “The Olllam are a strange bunch, an outfit that’s as happy playing Sligo Jazz Festival as they are playing Temple Bar Tradfest...the result is Neo-Acoustic Celtic Post-Rock. I’d describe it a little differently – it’s f***in’ deadly!”
Tickets are available at www.roisindubh.net, the Ticket Desk at OMG Zhivago, Shop Street, and The Róisín Dubh. See www.theolllam.com To hear the band’s music go to www.soundcloud.com/the-olllam s
