THIS EVENING at 8pm, Schumann’s Kinderszenen will be played in the Galway Cathedral by the Finnish organist Tuomas Pyrhönen.
Kinderszenen, which translates as ‘children’s scenes’, features 13 separate pieces, originally for piano, and were Schumann’s musical response to childhood memories. The concert will hear Mr Pyrhönen perform his own transcription of the piece for organ. The programme will also include music by Mozart, Bach, and Vierne.
The final concert in the series takes place on Thursday August 7 when Simon Thomas Jacobs, winner of the 2013 St Albans Organ Competition, will deliver an all-French programme of music by de Grigny, Boëlly, Franck, and Tournemire.
Each concert is followed by a ‘meet and greet’ with the performer and a glass of wine. Admission is €12/€10.
