Galway Masters event for Suicide Awareness

Preparations for the 2014 Galway Masters Basketball Tournament, taking place in The Kingfisher Club, NUIG, are in full swing and it is hoped the event will be as big a success as previous years.

The tournament, which takes place on the weekend of November 1 and 2, consists of 10 over-40s men’s teams, eight over-40s women’s teams, and six over-50s men’s teams representing countries from all over the world, including USA, Italy, Spain, Great Britain, and Croatia.

The players involved range from ex-NBA players to people who play basketball for fun and enjoy the camaraderie of the event. There is also a gala dinner in the Galway Bay Hotel on the Saturday night where awards are presented and money is raised for the nominated charity.

This year, the nominated charity is Suicide Awareness and, as in previous years, the organisers hope to make a generous donation to the charity at the end of the tournament.
