A 5k fun run and walk will take place in Renville and Maree this Saturday as part of an ongoing fundraising campaign being undertaken by a young man who plans to climb Kilimanjaro to raise funds for cystic fibrosis.
Eoghan Conneely plans to climb Africa’s highest mountain next month to raise funds for cystic fibrosis research and services.
“One of the many reasons why I chose it as my charity is having seen the impact this disease has had on the people around me,” he said.
“Within my own family the disease has impacted on us and it really is heartbreaking to see a life taken so young and the effect on those left behind.”
Climbing Kilimanjaro will also be a personal achievement for Mr Conneely. “I wanted to find a way to fund for my cause and not only that but to have achieved something myself,” he explained. “It inspires transformation. When you climb Kilimanjaro and stand on the roof of Africa, you see the world a different way.”
Saturday’s event will start at the car park in Renville Park from 2pm, and everyone is welcome to attend. There is no registration fee and walkers will be asked to make a donation on the day.
