People can learn how to deal with conflict, become leaders, and facilitate learning environments at a series of four workshops being held in the city in the autumn.
Entitled “Transformational leadership”, the courses will begin in September and will take place at weekends at Croi Nua Centre, Rosary Lane, Taylor’s Hill from 7.30pm to 9.30pm on Fridays and from 9.30am to 4pm on Saturdays.
They are being organised by Pernet Lay Associates Networking Together (PLANT ), a lay organisation which is the brainchild of Sr Imelda O’Sullivan of Galway’s Little Sisters of the Assumption. Their aim is to empower and support people in the community.
The workshops will be facilitated by Bobby Moore, a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and mediator. He works in private practice in Belfast.
Sr Imelda says the courses are geared at people involved in groups or community work but are also suitable for those with families.
The first workshop is called “Awakening the leader within - exploring your personal philosophy of leadership” and will take place from September 12 to 13.
Leadership is as much about the person you become as it is about the tasks you complete, according to Sr Imelda.
She says the course will help people motivate others by motivating themselves, negotiate an agreement for leadership that establishes realistic expectations and clarifies responsibilities.
Workshop 2 will concentrate on “Understanding and Managing Conflict” and will take place on October 10 and 11, while the third event on “Facilitating Learning” will be held on November 14 and 15.
Workshop 4 will deal with “Effectively participating in groups, teams and communities” and will take place on December 12 and 13.
The course is available through PLANT for €150 and a deposit of €50 will secure a place. However, positions are limited and early booking is advisable. For further information contact Imelda at (086 ) 6098887 or Nuala at (086 ) 3011717 for an application form.
