Galway Clinic celebrates tenth birthday

Since it opened its doors in 2004, the Galway Clinic has improved local cancer care services for the west of Ireland.

It has introduced a number of services to the region, such as radiotherapy, open heart surgery, PET/CT imaging, robotic assisted surgery, and laser eye surgery.

The Galway Clinic has introduced competition into the health care environment by removing the perception of exclusivity without compromising the delivery of medical excellence to all its patients.

The clinic is a community hospital ensuring a one tier level is delivered to the western region.

To celebrate the birthday of the Galway Clinic, a Mass was held by Archbishop Charles Brown, the Papal Nuncio to Ireland, on Friday June 27, which was followed by a concert featuring the Contempo Quartet, the Galway Gospel Choir, Aimee Banks, winner of Feis Ceoil 2014, and Bel Canto.

On Saturday evening, all staff of the clinic were invited to the Clayton Hotel for a gala five course dinner, followed by a raffle with all proceeds going to COPE Galway.

On Monday June 30, at 12 noon, the Galway Clinic restaurant presented a cake in the shape of the Galway Clinic to Mr and Mrs James Sheehan, the Galway executive team, and all staff and patients. The cake was blessed by Cannon O’Dwyer and was cut by Mr Sheehan and Philomena Cummins, the clinic’s first patient.

Galway Bay FM broacast live from the clinic, and interviewed many staff members.
