A specially built equine shelter has been opened in India to honour Galway woman Caitriona O’Leary, who died in a horse-riding accident in England two years ago.
TOLFA, an animal charity working with stray animals near Pushkar, Rajasthan, in Northern India, opened the Catriona O’Leary Equine Shade earlier this month in memory of a “passionate horse woman and animal lover.”
The equine shelter for horses and donkeys in the regio, was made possible by the memorial fund set up by her parents, Jane and Pat O’Leary.
Caitriona O’Leary travelled widely and worked with animals in India over many years, raising money for TOLFA in 2008 by riding across the desert in Rajasthan on horseback on her own.
In addition to the equine shelter, Caitriona O’Leary also donated her organs to medicine.
