One of the first social events on the Galway Race Week calendar is First Furlong at The Ardilaun hotel in aid of The National Breast Cancer Research Institute.
Now in its fourth year, it will take place on Tuesday July 29 with lunch, music and fashion.
The day gets under way with a sparkling drinks reception at 12 noon before a four course lunch with wine, followed by a millinery showcase featuring some of Galway’s most popular milliners, Suzie Mahony, Caitriona King, Michael Mullins and Mary White.
It will be a day of fun with prizes for the ‘Raciest Lady’ and ‘Bookies Favourite Gent’ sponsored by Anthony Ryans and Diamonds by Julia. Entertainment will be supplied by Marlay Road with a special performance by Duo Vocis, Sean Costello and Frank Naughton.
Well-known tipster George McDonagh will be on hand to give racing tips before everyone is shuttled to Ballybrit for an evening of racing.
Tickets are on sale from the Ardilaun Hotel for €70 per person, including entry to the race course.
All money raised will go to the National Breast Cancer Research Institute based at NUI Galway. Tickets are available online at www.theardilaunhotel.ie or by phone on 091 521433.
