Portishead DJ Andy Smith to celebrate one year of Shuffle!

HUFFLE! with DJ Dave Barry opened its doors to the public one year ago this July in the Róisín Dubh and has garnered a reputation for a great night of eclectic sounds ranging from soulful disco to uptempo reggae and northern soul. To celebrate this milestone ANDY SMITH, the man who DJed for and supplied samples for Portishead - and even one for The Prodigy - has been drafted in.

While best known as Portishead’s turntable master, Andy is also a respected remixer, via his mix albums Document I ( which kicked off after a DJ set he did on a US radio station during a Portishead tour became so popular he was asked to mix one for an LP ) and Document II on Illicit Records; co-founder of Dynamo Productions; and a connoisseur of northern soul. In his own words "I used to work with Portishead (dont anymore ) and I now DJ every Saturday night at Madame Jo-Jos in London, and 'Andy Smiths Jam Up Twist' on Fridays around the UK and further afield."

Add to this running one of London's most successful club nights (Paul Weller and Martin Freeman being two regular guest DJs ) still finding time to make top draw mixes and DJ internationally he has long outgrown the mere Portishead DJ title.

At the Shuffle! nights Dave Barry spins northern soul, 60s ska, r&b, 50s rock, swing, jump blues, latin boogaloo and much more all aimed to get the dancefloor moving. Andy will be upholding this policy, especially given his own clubnight and new CD/LP Jam Up Twist through such acts as Johnny 'Guitar' Watson, The Skatalites, and Toni & The Showmen.

Expect to hear a few of those and plenty more when Andy plays Shuffle! in the Róisín Dubh on Friday July 4 from 11.00pm. See www.djandysmith.com . As a special bonus a limited number of Shuffle! mix CDs will be given out on the night. See the Shuffle! facebook group for more details and event updates. www.facebook.com/groups/ShuffleWeb/
