NUI Galway to hold public forum on university sports

NUI Galway will be hosting a forum on sports on Saturday June 28 as part of the university’s engagement process with alumni and the public.

To be held in the Aula Maxima in NUIG from 10am to 1pm, the event will include speakers such as Gary Keegan, director at the Irish Institute of Sport, Neasa Folan of the English Institute of Sport, Ollie Daniels, chairman of Salthill Devon FC, and Olive Loughnane, Olympic athlete and world silver medalist.

The forum will be moderated by former senior television producer at RTÉ Sport, Caroline Murphy.

Discussion topics will include: how to engage with national sporting bodies, using scientific expertise in sport, and meeting the physical, structural, and academic needs of high performers.

Chairman of the NUIG Alumni Association, Sean O’Rourke, said: ‘‘NUI Galway has a fine tradition of achievement across many sports. Its students and graduates have frequently excelled, as they did in numbers with the All Ireland-winning Clare hurlers last year, or as they’ve done down the years at prestigious rowing events liike the annual Henley Regatta.’’

Those interested in attending are asked to register beforehand at www.nuigalway.ie/alumni or call 091 493750.
