A History of Violence screenwriter to attend Galway Film Fleadh

Josh Olson, the scriptwriter of the 2005 film A History of Violence, directed by David Cronenberg and starring Viggo Mortensen, is coming to the Galway Film Fleadh.

An Oscar, BAFTA, WGA, and Edgar nominee, Mr Olson will give the Screenwriters Masterclass at the fleadh on Thursday July 10 from 2pm to 5.30pm in the Radisson Hotel.

The masterclass will examine A History of Violence, with Mr Olson taking participants through it scene by scene, providing insights into his creative process, advice about how to shape a story for the screen, re-writes, working with others, and adapting source material.

Mr Olson also co-wrote an adaptation of Harlan Ellison’s The Discarded for the ABC TV Series Masters of Science Fiction. The episode starred Brian Dennehy and John Hurt, and was directed by Star Trek’s Jonathan Frakes.

He also adapted Halo for producer Peter Jackson and director Neill Blomkamp. He wrote a sequel to The Wizard of Oz for Warner Brothers, and adapted Lee Child’s bestselling Jack Reacher novel One Shot for Paramount. He has just written Tabloid, a thriller for Mick Jagger.
