Galway IT company celebrates twenty-five-year milestone

One of Ireland’s longest established technology companies, Galway-based Vulcan Solutions, celebrates 25 years in business this month.

A Microsoft gold certified partner and business applications specialist, Vulcan Solutions employs a team of 40 IT professionals at its development centre on the Headford Road.

The company was established in 1989 by two Galway businessmen Tony Johnstone and Matthew McNamara, and its clients include many well-known organisations, such as One Direct (An Post ), Acorn Life, the Private Residential Tenancies Board (PRTB ), the Road Safety Authority, Trinity College Dublin, and NUI Galway.

Speaking at the company’s 25th birthday celebrations in the g Hotel recently, CEO Cian McNamara said: “Our people have always been at the heart of our success, and we want to recognise that as we celebrate a quarter of a century in business. As an organisation, we are very fortunate to have the commitment and dedication of a team of exceptional people.

“We see great opportunities to enhance our solutions and services to bring additional value to our customers, and we want to be doing more business beyond the island of Ireland. With this in mind, we are planning a significant programme of investment in research and development during the second half of 2014.”

According to the company, revenue is increasing by 10 per cent year on year. One particular growth area for Vulcan Solutions is the higher education sector where the company is experiencing strong demand for its solution expertise, both in Ireland and Britain.

“We operate at the leading edge of an industry that is set to play a huge part in the economic recovery of this country over the coming years,” Mr McNamara says.

“As Ireland emerges from a long period of recession, we feel we are well positioned in a thriving sector. We are confident that our targeted and highly competitive offering will result in further opportunities and success for our company, and we are looking forward to our next 25 years in business.”
