Titans take Toulouse in overtime

Galway's Titans senior girls showed great resolve and character to achieve a well-deserved win in their final match at the highly competitive Tournoi Antton Pebbet at the Basque Club of Anglet France, Team ACCB.

Up against girls seeking professional contracts in the division one French National League Clubs and Eurobasket Teams, Titans had invited players from other clubs in the region and travelled with a squad, managed by Margaret Cox and Gillian Coughlan, that included Katie Coughlan and Danielle O'Brien (Titans Tyche ), Aoife Donovan, Ailbhe Greally, Denise Kineen, Alannah Mc Donald, Emma Fagan and Aoife Ryan (Athlone ); Emma Keaveny (Sligo All Stars ), and Sarah Grealish Titans and NUIG Mystics .

In their opening game the Galway Titans, coached by Michele McCaughern. went right to the wire against their French division one counterparts, Toulouse Lardenne, losing by a basket after a hard -ought full court battle. They then faced even tougher opponent in US Team Lillebonne, and the French National champions of 2014, Anglet ACBB, losing both fixtures.

Improving throughout the tournament they came close to upsetting Spanish side Donosti Basket Neskak, but lost in a thriller by four points, 36-31. However in their final game, against Toulouse Lardenne, they led by five points at half time. Flagging in the 35 degrees at the Hogar Arena in Anglet, Titans were pushed al the way with the game tied 34-34 at full time. However in extra time Titans held their resolve, bringing home a two-point victory.
