Speedsters in the Lurgan Park and Renmore Park area will experience a bumpy ride after two new ramps have been installed this week, following representations from Independent councillor Terry O’Flaherty.
Cllr O’Flaherty says one ramp has been installed on the Lurgan Park road, while another has been put in place on Renmore Park road, beside the entrance to the former Molloys shop.
Speeding has been a serious problem for the residents, according to Cllr O’Flaherty. The new ramps are expected to be welcomed by residents, but Cllr O’Flaherty says while helping to curb speeding, it will do little to prevent rat running which is a particular problem in Renmore Park road.
Other road and footpath improvements in the Mervue area have also been welcomed by Cllr O’Flaherty. The works being carried out includes new kerbing on the road between 21 and 26 Tone Avenue, while part of the footpath in Plunkett Avenue, badly damaged by vehicles parking in the area, is now being repaired. Representations have been made for the installation of bollards to help curb illegal parking. Footpath improvements will also be carried out shortly in Parnell Avenue to “enhance the area considerably”.
