Public interview with Jimmy McGovern

JIMMY MCGOVERN, the screenwriter for Cracker, Hillsborough, and The Lakes, is coming to Galway to take part in a public interview about his life and work.

The BAFTA and Emmy award-winning writer will be interviewed by former GMIT Film & TV course director, Patsy Murphy, in The Harbour Hotel on Friday June 6. At the same venue, he will also give a workshop focused on writing his first feature, Needle.

Jimmy began his writing in 1982 on Channel 4’s Brookside. After leaving the show in 1989 he went on to develop some of the finest British dramas of the 1990s, particularly Cracker, about a forensic scientist and criminologist played by Robbie Coltrane. He is currently working for the BBC on Banished, a TV drama set in 18th century Australia, and Common, a TV film set in north west England - both for BBC.

The event is being organised by the Galway Film Centre in association with the GMIT, and Screen Training Ireland.

Tickets for the interview are €25. The cost for the workshop is also €25. See www.galwayfilmcentre.ie
