FAI’s John Delaney to turn the first sod on new Oughterard AFC

Football is to get a major boost in the Oughterard area as Oughterard AFC will officially launch its new sports pitches and facilities on Thursday January 15 at 2.30pm.

FAI chief executive John Delaney will be present at New Village, Oughterard, to ‘turn the first sod’ on the club’s new state of the art sporting facilities.

“We are thrilled to have John Delaney present to turn the first sod on this tremendous occasion,” said OAFC chair Paul Silke. “ All club members are focused on hard work and commitment to meet the challenges of this project in assisting the OAFC to grow into the future.”

Phase One to construct the first natural grass pitch and ground works for the 10 acre site has begun and will cost €650,000. This includes site clearance and professional fees.

In order to raise the estimated costs of €1.5 million for the full site development, OAFC is hosting a Pitchmaker Draw on St Patrick’s Day 2009, with prizes including a Mazda2, a boat and trailer, €2,000 Marks & Spencer voucher, €1,000 holiday voucher, and a laptop.

Tickets for the draw are priced at €50 and are available through the club by emailing [email protected] or calling 085 - 1000 074.
