Funding to restore Oughterard Courthouse approved

Nearly half a million in funding has been announced for the redevelopment of Oughterard Courthouse.

Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government Phil Hogan announced this week that he has sanctioned Forum Connemara Ltd to approve funding totalling €497,985 to Oughterard Courthouse Conservation and Heritage Company Limited, which aims to restore the landmark building.

The money will be used to conserve, renovate and develop the former courthouse building into a community resource. The structure is a protected building built circa 1840 and is considered to be of regional architectural significance.
