Some 500 competitors are expected to take part in the Connemara Adventure Challenge at Killary Harbour, Leenane, on Saturday.
This 32.5km sprint adventure race takes place along a route which offers spectacular views of the Maamturks, Twelve Bens, Killary Harbour and the Mweelrea Mountains. Competitors run, climb hills, cycle and kayak to complete the challenge and then gather for a party at Killary Adventure Centre.
Race director of Gaelforce events, Mona Purcell, says the Connemara Adventure Challenge is a fantastic event which sees elite racers and those completely new to adventure racing line up to take on the challenge.
"It is a very do-able distance for the novice, while the route provides a great training challenge for the more seasoned racer. Then they all get together afterwards at our now-famous race party."
Charity partners Croi will also be hoping competitors will choose to raise funds for its work while participating in this unique event which promotes health, fitness and enjoyment of the outdoors.
