KING LEAR, one of Shakespeare’s great tragedies, is to be staged by the National Theatre in London, and broadcast live via satellite to Galway.
Directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Revolutionary Road ), and starring Simon Russell Beale (My Week With Marilyn ) in the title role, the play will be screened at The Eye tonight at 7pm.
An aged king decides to divide his kingdom among his three daughters, according to which of them is most eloquent in praising him. His favourite, Cordelia, says nothing. Lear’s world descends into chaos.
Time Out has declared the production “literally awe-inspiring”.
