JEFFREY LEWIS is something of a Renaissance man - albeit in a very US indie kind of way. Raised in New York City he is a maker of comic books, tragi-comic folk narratives, and lysergic garage rock.
Jeffrey Lewis & The Jitters play the Róisín Dubh on Thursday August 7 at 9pm. The Jitters are Jeffrey’s brother Jack on bass and David Beauchamp on drums. Together they mix 1960s acoustic psychedelia with the experimental art-punk. Live shows also incorporate ‘low budget videos’ - ie, Jeff’s large illustrations displayed to accompany certain songs.
Jeffrey’s 2006 album Jeffrey & Jack Lewis: City & Eastern Songs, was produced by Kramer (Galaxie 500, Butthole Surfers, Low, Daniel Johnston ) and was selected as one of Time Out’s best albums of the year.
In 2007 Jeffrey released an album of folk, rock, psychedelic, orchestral and electronica covers of songs by the legendary English anarchist punk band Crass. Jeffrey’s most recent comic book series Fuff is currently up to issue five.
