A medical student from Galway is undertaking an epic skateboarding journey in Europe to raise funds for Multiple Sclerosis Ireland.
Cathal MacDonncha, a final year medical student at UL, is calling on fellow Galwegians to support Multiple Sclerosis Ireland in the run up to World MS Day on May 28.
MacDonncha is hoping to raise runds for the charity by using his longboard - a long distance skateboard - to travel some 360km from Bordeaux in southern France to Bilbao in Spain. He sets off on May 19 after completing his degree, armed with a helmet, a backback with his tent, and a ‘spork’ for “late night tins of beans”.
Cathal MacDonncha says he is supporting MS Ireland because its community work and group support for people living with MS is hugely worthwhile.
“MS Ireland is the only national organisation that provides dedicated support and services to people with multiple sclerosis, their families, friends and carers.”
The medical student is funding his own trip and has set up a mycharity.ie page and Facebook page with the catchphrase “LongBordeaux to Bilbao” for people to donate money directly to MS Ireland and track his progress. He hopes to complete his journey by June 3.
