Titans defeat national champs

Titans extended their nine-game winning streak with a 14-point victory over the current National Cup and League Champions Tolka Rovers in North Dublin on Sunday afternoon.

Titans, the highest scoring team in the nation, have taken a step closer to pole position in the Southern Conference.

Titans’ momentum continued after the Christmas recess, when they jumped out to an early lead against Tolka. Titans started with a strong line-up of Danny Finn, Paulius Peldzius, Darren Callanan, Paul Freeman, and David O'Keefe. Upon establishing a quick 10-point lead coach Lynch looked to experiment with various combinations on court. Derek Mulveen took the point position from Danny Finn and hit his opening shot. Patrick O'Neill jumped into the centre of defence for Paul Freeman, and Jack Considine slotted into the shooting guard position. This mature line-up extended the lead further to 13 as Titans were well in control by the end of the first quarter.

Paulius Peldzius grabbed a number of baskets in succession, while Conall MacMichael was the shooting star of the third quarter, knocking in 11 points in a four-minute spell, including a trio of three pointers. Paul Freeman was re-introduced in the fourth quarter and he contributed 12 points to extend the lead to 18 points with two minutes remaining. Titans kept in reserve their talisman Rimvydas Visockas for next Saturday's challenge as they cruised to an 82-68 point win.
