A dog adoption day will take place at Trusty Pet Pals dog day care centre in Briarhill Business Park on Saturday, April 12, from 12 to 4pm.
The adoption day, organised by local dog charity MADRA, will offer those interested in adopting a dog the opportunity to talk to the MADRA team and to meet some of the dogs and pups that are currently looking for their new homes.
Speaking about the event, MADRA spokesperson Eileen Keleghan advised members of the public to come to the event with an open mind as to what type of dog they want.
She said; “We like to talk to potential adopters and find out a little bit about them so that we can find the dog that will suit their lifestyle."
Previous adoption days organised by MADRA have resulted in some very successful matches, and it is hoped that this Saturday will be no different with up to 20 dogs being brought into the city from the Camus-based shelter.
The number of dogs rescued by MADRA in 2013 increased dramatically from the 2012 figures, with an extra 110 dogs coming into the care of MADRA over the 12 month period. A total of 832 dogs and pups were rescued over the 12 month period.
Potential dog owners interested in meeting a specific dog from the Connemara based shelter should contact MADRA in advance as only a selection of the dogs will be there on the day. All dogs will be re-homed with a home check and a donation of €150 is advised in order to help cover the cost of neutering, vaccinating, micro-chipping and caring for the dog at the kennels.
MADRA is a Connemara based dog rescue and adoption group dedicated to finding new homes for dogs of all shapes, sizes and breeds.

Some of the dogs that will be at the adoption day:
Fusa – Fusa is a lovely friendly young Malamute girl of around a year old. She is full of fun and cuddles and would make an ideal companion for an active family.
Scamp – Scamp is a fun little terrier of around a year old. He loves cuddles and playing and gets on well with his kennel mate Oso.
Bess – Bess is a two year old Akita girl who came in with her five puppies. Two of her puppies, Úna and Orca, will also be attending the adoption day. Bess is one of the nicest dogs ever in the kennels and has captured the heart of everyone who has met her. She’s friendly, affectionate and walks well on the lead.
Charlie and Lucy – Charlie and Lucy are just two of the lovely puppies who will be attending the adoption day. These two lovely babies are only six weeks old and from the pound. They might be German Pointer crosses and expect them to grow up to be medium sized dogs. They have the most amazing eyes and are sure to be popular on the day.
Maurice – Maurice is a stunning 10 month old Labrador boy. He is a typical fun Lab boy who would suit an active family willing to take him on long walks and play with him.
