Setanta Ireland launches GAA schedule for 2009

Setanta Ireland announced its provisional list of live and deferred games for the National Football and Hurling Leagues this week.

The station will broadcast five (live ) games and four (deferred ) floodlit games on Saturday nights. Four other live games will be broadcast on Sundays and details of those games will be announced over the coming weeks.

Coverage begins with the live coverage of the eagerly awaited NFL opener between All-Ireland champions Tyrone and Dublin from Croke Park on January 31.

Galway football fans will also be pleased to know their away game in round three of the NFL against Tyrone is one of the games that will be shown live on Saturday March 7.

The resilient supporters will travel regardless of that fact, but it will be nice for those who cannot make it to Healy Park to be able to catch the game nearer home.

Commentary for most of the games will be provided by well known Mayo News sports editor and Mid-West radio commentator Mike Finnerty who was also commentator for TV3 in last year’s championship.

Former Offaly manager from the famous 1982 All-Ireland final against Kerry and highly respected GAA pundit Eugene McGee will provide most of the studio analysis and he will be joined by former Roscommon All-star Paul Earley and former Dublin player Senan O’ Connell.

PS. In the interests of objectivity I have to admit I too will be doing some punditry work for the station for the duration of the NFL.

Schedule of games on Setanta Ireland: Saturday January 31, NFL: Dublin v Tyrone (live ); Saturday February 14, NHL: Tipperary v Cork (live ); Saturday March 7, NFL: Tyrone v Galway (live from Omagh ); Saturday March 7, NFL: Meath v Laois (deferred ); Saturday March 14, NFL: Dublin v Derry (live ); Saturday March 14, NFL: Laois v Cork (deferred ); Saturday March 28, NFL: Tyrone v Derry (live ); Saturday March 28, NHL: Laois v Offaly (deferred ).
