Getting rowdy at a city centre night club and giving bouncers the finger during a night out proved to be very expensive for an electrician who was fined for public order offences last week.
David Feeney (25 ) with an address at Killoughter, Ballindooley, Galway, appeared before Judge Mary Fahy at Galway District Court last Monday charged with being intoxicated in a public place at Eglinton Street on October 5, 2008, and for being intoxicated in a public place and threatening and abusive behaviour at Eglinton Street on July 31, 2008.
Inspector Sean Glynn told the court that on July 31 at 1.40am the defendant was found in a drunken state in Eglinton Street. He had been at Karma night club earlier where he had been very abusive to staff. When he was kicked out by the bouncers he “put his fingers up” at them and “knocked over a barrier” at the entrance. Inspector Glynn said that the defendant was unable to stand and gardai arrested him for his own safety.
Defence solicitor Olivia Traynor explained that her client has had “serious difficulties in his family” which included “tragedies”. She said that Feeney, a qualified electrician, was now back working and “is making efforts”. “He knows, given his previous convictions, what the court can do,” said Ms Traynor.
“He will be in a precarious situation next time,” warned Judge Mary Fahy who fined the defendant €300 for the threatening and abusive behaviour and ordered him to pay €150, taken from bail money lodged, for the remaining charges.
