Renmore residents urged to be vigilant following break-ins

Renmore householders need to be vigilant for themselves and their neighbours, following a spate of break-ins in the area.

Fine Gael Galway City East candidate Margo Kelly is calling on the Renmore public to be vigilant, as recently two break-ins took place on the same road, both occurring within hours of each other and when the houses were unoccupied. Money and jewellery seem to be the main targets for the thieves.

In response, Ms Kelly organised a public meeting with Renmore/Mervue community guard, Declan Mulligan, and Emily Deavy, who spoke about setting up a neighbourhood watch group.

Garda Mulligan warned people not to let strangers into the house without proper identification and said that if someone calls offering a service, s/he should be asked to put a card in the letter box and say when s/he can be contacted.

Ms Kelly hopes that a neighbourhood watch scheme can be extended to all areas in Renmore
