A court summons to listen to music

COURT ROOMS are not associated with musical concerts - unless there was a fall-out between artist and promoter - but they are places of performance and controversy.

The Galway Courthouse however is the unusual location for a concert by the ConTempo Quartet and the Crash Ensemble on Friday April 4 at 8pm.

The programme will feature ‘Maito’ by Finnish composer Max Savikangas (dubbed the “Hendrix of the Viola” ); Simon Holt’s ‘A Second Box of Brief Candles’; Santa Ratniece’s ‘Alveoles’; Øyvind Torvund’s ‘Neon Forest Space’; and Sam Perkin’s ‘Prelude and Fugue for Violin and Marimba’. A panel discussion on writing and performing of contemporary music takes place afterwards.

The Crash Ensemble play adventurous, modern classical and they have worked with Steve Reich, Gavin Friday, Terry Riley, and Iarla Ó Lionaird.

Tickets are €20/16/6 from Music for Galway (091 - 705962, [email protected] ); Opus II, High Street; or www.tht.ie
