Jury selection begins in Boston for trial of teen accused of murdering Aran Islander

Jury selection began this week for the upcoming trial of the Boston teenager accused of murdering Aran Islander Ciaran Conneely on October 10, 2011.

Originally from Inis Meain, 36-year-old Ciaran Conneely had been living in the US for 12 years when he was found dead near his home in the Dorchester area of Boston. He had been shot in the chest during what is believed to have been a botched robbery as he walked home after attending celebrations at an Irish heritage festival.

Dorchester native John Graham was just 17 years old when he was charged with the murder of Mr Conneely.

Graham is also facing charges of armed assault with intent to murder, aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, and two additional counts of armed assault with intent to rob, all in connection with an incident that occurred October 30, 2011.

It is understood that all the charges will be dealt with together in a single trial which is expected to get under way as soon as the jury is selected. The jury selection commenced on March 18 at Suffolk Superior Court in Boston.
