Hosty launches petition for more footpaths in Barna area

The lack of facilities in Barna shows that regions which straddle the city and county boundary are regarded as “no man’s land” by both local authorities in Galway.

This is the view of Fianna Fáil Connemara candidate MacDara Hosty, who has also launched a petition calling on Galway County Council to draft “a comprehensive plan” for the provision of footpaths, street lighting, and safety signage in the Barna, Na Forbacha, and Buailebeag areas.

According to Mr Hosty, “a huge proportion of the council owned roads in the area” have no such facilities.

The FF candidate also said it was “incredible”, that an area with a combined population of some 17,500 does not have a community centre or council provided playing pitches for Gaelic, rugby, or soccer
