Galway footballers will know who they face on Sunday

Anyone who has been up at Ballybrit during the week will know how difficult it can be to predict a winner. Likewise in the All-Ireland football championship there is no real consensus on who will be first past the finishing post on September 21.

Galway and the other provincial final winners are back in action the weekend after next, and Liam Sammon will find out his opponents this Sunday evening.

The winners of the Monaghan and Kerry tie this weekend will be seen as the team to avoid by most managers.

With Dublin showing such superb conditioning and hunger for the fray in their casual dismissal of Wexford in the Leinster final, they have jumped to the top of many people’s list as the possible winners of the Sam Maguire.

Padriac Joyce and company will think differently about that. They will feel that they are in the last eight and if they play to their maximum, they have as good a chance as any other team left in the drum.

Having not won a game in Croke Park since 2001, and not reached the All-Ireland semi-final since that year, it would be great to take another step on the rebuilding process. Keep your diaries free to support the team in the quarter-final.
