The repair or demolition of a derelict house on the Ballybanebeg/Old Galway Road must be insisted upon by the Galway City Council legal team at a court sitting next week.
This is the view of Independent Galway City East councillor Declan McDonnell, who said that instead of allowing the case to be deferred again, council officials and their legal team that “every effort be made to resolve the problem”.
Cllr McDonnell alleged there was a “illegal dumping and unsanitary conditions” on the site in question, and he said this was “unfair on residents and the wardens who have been actively trying to get some action on this issue for a number of years”.
Cllr McDonnell said it is “time for the owner to either repair or demolish this house”.
“Nobody should have to live beside a site like this,” he said. “It is imperative the legal team demand and not accept any more excuses for the lack of action.”
