Galway fire fighters pose for Cystic Fibrosis Galway

Alan Chanter and his colleagues at Galway Fire Station presented a cheque for €14,240 to PJ Kavanagh, the treasurer of Cystic Fibrosis Galway, the proceeds from the sale of a charity calendar.

“The Galway Fire Fighters would like to thank the chief fire officer Michael Raftery for allowing us to use the equipment and facilities at the Galway Fire Station, John McDonnell for taking the photographs and putting the calendar together, all of our generous sponsors who help fund the printing of the calendar, all the lads in the fire station who contributed or helped in any way, The Galway branch of Cystic Fibrosis for their assistance, and finally a massive thanks to the fire fighters who bared so much for such a great cause,” said Mr Chanter at the presentation.

Representing Cystic Fibrosis Galway, Mary Lane Heneghan said; “All the proceeds from the sale of the calendars will go directly to Cystic Fibrosis Galway Hospital Project and will be used to improve facilities and resources for children and adults with CF who attend the CF paediatric unit led by consultant paediatrician Dr Mary Herzig and the Cystic Fibrosis adult unit led by consultant Dr Michael O’Mahony.

Life expectancy and quality of life for those with cystic fibrosis improves in direct proportion to the availability of specialist centres with isolated in-care and day-care facilities thus minimising the risk of cross infections. The support from the people of Galway and the fundraising efforts of the Galway Fire Station is expected to make a real difference and is greatly appreciated by the organisation.
