NUI Galway will hosts Ireland’s only Harry Potter Convention when PotterFest Galway takes place from January 31 to February 2 in the university’s Bailey Allen Hall.
Organised by NUIG’s Harry Potter Society, the event will offer a taste of Hogwarts in potions, astrology, or defence against the dark arts classes. In the opening ceremony on the Friday fans will be sorted into their houses and compete in games for the auror or deatheater teams. On Sunday there will be a chance to try out muggle Quidditch and to watch a couple of matches.
A fun-filled weekend is in store with talks from speakers from ‘Magic is Might’, Jennifer Trieu and Grainne O’Brien. There will be writing and cosplay workshops, an artist’s alley, and a trader’s hall where artwork and merchandise can be purchased. There will be also a games room and other events.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to charity. More information is available at www.potterfestgalway.com, Facebook, Twitter, and tumblr, or email [email protected]. Weekend tickets cost €15, and a day ticket is €10, with Friday only being free entry.
