Galway WFC host Castlebar Celtic in Connacht derby

Galway WFC return to action after the Christmas break this weekend when they host Connacht rivals Castlebar Celtic in Eamonn Deacy Park on Sunday at 2pm.

This will be an eagerly awaited clash. When the sides last met, Galway ran out convincing 3-0 winners in a performance of style and class in Celtic Park.

There is no doubt Celtic will be hoping to gain revenge this time out. Both sides have also been drawn in the same group in the League Cup which will see this being the first of two visits for Castlebar to the Terryland venue in three weeks.

Both sides know each other well with many of the Galway players having previously played for the Mayo outfit. It will be an attractive clashfor the football public, and a bumper crowd is expected.

Galway WFC has issued a call to the Galway public: “The rivalry between Galway and Mayo is great. We know Castlebar will have a large travelling support and this will be added to by the large number of Mayo exiles in Galway. Therefore we are calling on the people of Galway to get down to Eamonn Deacy Park to shout on the Galway women in this Connacht derby.”

Admission is €5 for adults and free for children.
