The Salthill Promenade, Grattan Road, and the Fishmarket at the Spanish Arch are at serious risk from high flood over next few days, leading the Galway City Council to issue a storm surge warning.
City Hall is calling on the public to exercise caution. The high tide is likely to coincide with expected high winds and a storm surge in Galway Bay. There is the potential for flooding at points along the Promenade between Grattan Road and Blackrock in Salthill.
In particular, the car park at Toft Park beside the Atlantaquarium is liable to flood in the hours around high tide and motorists are advised not to leave their cars there this afternoon and over-night.
The critical tide times over the coming days are: today (6.07am and 6.32pm ); tomorrow (6.41 and 7.06pm ); and Saturday (7.14am and 7.41pm ).
Further preparatory measures may be put in place as weather conditions develop over the coming days and Galway City Council staff are on standby to deal with any issues which may arise.
