The chair of the Northern Ireland Livestock and Meat Commission Pat O’Rourke, is to seek the Fianna Fáil nomination for the Midlands-North-West EU constituency, which includes County Galway.
Mr O’Rourke is a Longford-based agri-food leader, and regional and rural development specialist. The NILMC advises the Northern Ireland Power Sharing administration on the development of the livestock sector.
“It is more important than ever that Ireland, and our constituency, is represented at the European Parliament by somebody with significant experience who understands the system and the issues affecting people in the various sectors all over this region,” said Mr O’Rourke.
“I have considerable experience as a negotiator at top levels in Ireland and in Europe for the past 30 years and I believe that puts me in a very strong position to work effectively on behalf of the people of this region.”
