The life of Nelson Mandela, or Madiba, the Xhosa clan name by which he was affectionately known, will be remembered and celebrated in Galway.
Mr Mandela, who died last week aged 95, was one of the most respected and loved figures in world politics for his struggle against apartheid in Sough Africa and his championing of human rights, freedom, and racial equality.
The Galway memorial service will take place in the Galway Cathedral this Saturday at 12 noon. The service will be attended by South Africans and the wider African community in Galway and an invitation is being extended to all Galwegians to attend.
