Deputy Mayor Cllr Colette Connolly is calling on An Post to operate a parcel retrieval facility at the GPO in Eglinton Street.
She says she has received a number of complaints from people who have to travel more than two-and-a half miles to Parkmore to retrieve Christmas parcels. Items are brought there if residents are not at home when An Post calls.
Cllr Connolly says this system is putting an “intolerable burden” on older people, especially and those without access to a car.
“It takes over 30 minutes to get out to Parkmore, wait for service, and then travel back at a cost of over €20 in a taxi from the GPO. Citizens do not even have the choice of using public transport as there is no bus service operating between the city centre and Parkmore. In addition, there is no signage alerting the public on the Parkmore site that it is in fact an An Post depot.”
Slamming the service as “shabby” Cllr Connolly says it must end immediately. A parcel retrieval facility at the GPO would solve the ongoing problem, she stressed.
