Galway’s Sarah Smith (pictured right ), club coach of Galway Kettlebells, took first place in the recent All Ireland Kettlebell Cup of Ireland in Wexford.
Smith won the Long Cycle discipline lifting a 20kg kettlebell for 10 minutes with one arm change allowed during the lift achieving 65 reps. This is the heaviest kettlebell weight Smith has lifted for 10 minutes at a competition, having competed at the European Championships with a 16kg bell in May when she achieved bronze in her category.
Smith also achieved silver in the team relay on the day.
Galway Kettlebells is the only club in the west teaching the sport, also known as Girevoy. She is currently looking for more athletes to compete in a five- minute beginners’ competition in December in Limerick.
