This Saturday (September 7 ) the ‘Renault into the West Cycle Challenge’ will arrive in Eyre Square.
This is the 19th year of the event which helps raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Research Institute which is based at NUIG. To date the event has raised almost €1million for the NBCRI research team.
This year the cycle is sponsored by Renault Ireland through Bradley Motor Works, Galway, and O’Briens Motors, Mullingar, and will see participants cycle from Mullingar to Galway and back, a 300km round trip over two days.
Starting Saturday morning from the Mullingar Park Hotel at 9am, the cyclists hope to arrive in Eyre Square at approximately 5pm where they will be greeted by the Mayor of Galway, Pádraig Conneely, chairperson of NBCRI Anna O’Coinne, and NBCRI medical director, Prof Michael Kerin.
On Sunday the cyclists will start the journey back to Mullingar from The Connacht Hotel at 9am.
The cyclists are easy to spot in their pink cycling jerseys.
If you see them on the road this Saturday or Sunday, give them a beep and show your support.
