Kai Restaurant wins top award

Award winning Galway city-based Kai Cafe and Restaurant can now add another accolade to its collection after it was named the Best Restaurant in Connacht at the Food & Wine/Maison Louis Latour Restaurant of the Year Awards 2013.

The Sea Road restaurant was not only awarded the Best Restaurant Connacht award, but also the Highly Recommended Chef award which went to co-owner and chef, New Zealander Jessica Murphy.

Owned by David and Jessica Murphy, Kai has built up a reputation as one of the country’s best restaurants. In two years it has been awarded numerous awards including Restaurant of the Year in the 2012 Bridgestone awards. It has also been named the in Top 10 Happening Rooms in the Country, the Top 10 Great ‘him ‘n’ her’ Places, the Top 10 Great Signature Dishes, and the fourth Best Female Chef in Ireland. Earlier this year Kai was named in John and Sally McKennas’ guides as one of the ‘100 Best Restaurants in Ireland 2013’.

Other Connacht winners in the Food and Wine/Maison Louis Latour Restaurant of the Year Awards 2013 include: Seamus Conway of La Fougere Restraurant in Westport, Mayo, which received the Best Chef in Connacht award; An Port Mór in Westport which received the Highly Recommended Restaurant award; La Fougere Restaurant, Westport, which received the Recommended Restaurant award; Frankie Mallon of An Port Mór, Westport, who received the Recommended Chef award; and Nicholas Faujours of La Fougere Restaurant, Westport, who received the national award for Best Sommelier.

Overall, the highly coveted ‘Restaurant of the Year’ award was won for the fifth time by Chapter One Restaurant, Dublin 1, and Mickael Viljanen of The Green House, Dublin 2, was the recipient of Food & Wine/Maison Louis Latour ‘Best Chef’ title, which he previously won in 2011.
