Niall Farrell, the PRO of the Galway Alliance Against War, received a death threat when he answered his phone on Tuesday - the fourth such threat in nine months.
Mr Farrell answered the phone at 3.08pm on Tuesday and was told by the caller that he would be “f***ing killed!” The caller than said: “F*** you, f*** your sister”.
Mr Farrell’s sister Mairéad was killed in March 1988 by a British SAS hit squad in Gibraltar. She was part of an unarmed IRA reconnaissance unit.
This is the fourth such threatening call he has received. The first came on March 10, the second on March 11, and the third on October 12.
After the first call Mr Farrell contacted the gardaí. He was told by the Garda sergeant in Oranmore that the mobile phone used in this call was registered to a bogus name and address. It is understood that the Gardaí have still have not established anything about the second or third call.
Mr Farrell wants the Gardaí to answer why they have been unable to identify any of these callers. While he acknowledges that the Gardaí “treat death threats very seriously”, a complaint concerning the lack of an investigation was made to the Garda Ombudsman on November 5
