Ulster Bank launches new initiative for money-wise parenting

TV presenter and mother of two, Lucy Kennedy, has launched a new initiative for parents called ‘Ulster Bank MoneySense at Home’ – a free online platform, developed by Ulster Bank, which provides parents and families with financial guidance and learning tools.

Building on the success of MoneySense for Schools, Ulster Bank MoneySense at Home has been developed to meet the growing demand from parents and families, for guidance on everyday aspects of money management. The programme provides users with advice on areas such as budgeting, what to do if something unexpected happens, managing debt, teaching children about money, and getting the best value for money when shopping.

Speaking at the launch of the initiative, Ulster Bank MoneySense ambassador, Lucy Kennedy, said: “There’s nothing like starting a family to make you really understand the importance of money management and budgeting. As busy parents juggling kids with everyday life, it's rare that we have a chance to really look at where we are spending money and if we are making the right choices. For me, MoneySense at Home is a new, fresh approach to talking about money in a way that's easy to understand, and is exactly what I need to help budget for my family."

Also commenting, Jim Ryan, Managing Director of Branch Banking, Private and Advice, Ulster Bank, said: “Learning about money and how to manage it effectively is an essential life skill. We have seen a significant appetite among parents for the introduction of a viable financial education and guidance resource. We closely examined the areas in which parents and families consistently seek advice and information, and developed the website to include tips on budgeting, spending and shopping – as well as information on how to teach your children, from a young age, on the importance of money management.”

Ulster Bank MoneySense at Home has been launched in conjunction with Ulster Bank’s popular ‘MoneySense for Schools’ initiative. Now in its sixth year, Ulster Bank MoneySense for Schools is Ireland’s largest financial education programme – specifically designed to be incorporated into any secondary school curriculum. Since its introduction, it has also reached over 37,000 students and is currently being used by over 70 per cent of secondary schools, across Ireland.
