Galway festivals receive Arts Council funding

More than €550,000 in Arts Council funding has been granted to six arts and cultural festivals in County Galway.

The funding is part of the Arts Council’s provision of €2.1 million in support of more than 40 festivals throughout the State, which were held in the early summer or are due to take place in the autumn.

The Galway festivals which received funding were: Galway Arts Festival (€470,000 ), Ceol na Mara (€3,000 ) and the forthcoming Clifden Community Arts Week (€70,000 ), which runs from September 19 to 29; Portumna Arts Group - Shorelines Arts Festival €2,000, which takes place from September 19 to 22; Inishbofin Set Dancing and Trad Weekend (€1,500 ), which is held from September 27 to 29; and the Galway Theatre Festival (€5,000 ), which runs from September 30 to October 6.

The funding was made available to these festivals under yearly grants, with a number also receiving funding through the Arts Council’s festivals and events scheme
