Donkey Derby to raise funds for Injured Jockeys’ Fund

The fourth Annual Donkey Derby in aid of the Injured Jockey’s Fund will be held in Galway city on Thursday August 1 at Galway Greyhound track.

Twelve donkeys will battle it out for first place and tension is mounting as to who will be first past the post. Not since the glory days of Red Rum and Arkle will Galway have seen such speed and skill in action with national hunt jockeys Paul and Nina Carberry; Davy Condon; and David Russell to name but a few who will mount the asses.

The history of this highly competitive race goes back to the glory days of 1969 when the Rahoon Slasher from the Griffin family stable took the prestigious title at the Claddagh. Other famous runners remembered include the Craughwell Bomber and the Killoughter King owned by the Geoghegan and Glynn families.

Tickets to this exciting event are €10 and includes entry to the Greyhound Track and a race card. Organisers cannot promise a photo finish but a great night out for all the family is guaranteed. They wish to thank all sponsors and in particular Joe Dolan and Associates, Insurance Claim Consultants, Tuam, Co. Galway.
